| Albert Einstein Lecture |

'Mark that calendar'... Friday, January 7th - in The Great Hall Did you miss it? ...probably, if you born after World War I ... It was in 1921! Yes, Albert Einstein gave an important lecture on his "current work," here, in our cultural center, as part of the URANIA Association events celebrating the birth of the First Republic of a 'Free' Czechoslovakia. Come back here soon to find the story. You may be surprised, but there is a long tradition in Prague and Central Europe between, from the 19th Century, of fervent support for the performing and graphic arts from great leaders in the pure sciences, including great scientists and mathematicians. URANIA, as a scientific and cultural association, was an international organization based 'upstairs' in our buildings, with chapters in Berlin and in Vienna. Their goal was not only to encourage the sciences and the arts, but particularly to make science - and its potential benefits - understandable to non-scientists and normal people, so to speak. 'That Friday' was a full day of music, poetry, the Arts and science, too, with major international leaders, politicians, artists, actors, musicians, writers, poets and business and governmental leaders - as well as some great scientists, including Albert Einstein, of course. |
